I did this amusing thing at every Grateful Dead concert I attended over the years where I had an extra ticket to sell. I would hold it up to the scalpers at the show and they would run over like lemmings. Then I would ask them to name ONE Grateful Dead song - the first person that could name ONE Grateful Dead song could buy my tickets. LOL. They couldn't even name one song. I never sold a ticket to a scalper nor will I ever do that. I also loved giving out miracle tickets right in front of the scalpers. The looks on their faces was worth the price of admission.

I did this at Gov't Mule last week at The Oakland Fox Theatre. I had the time of my life amusing the crowd waiting in line for the doors to open. "Name one Gov't Mule song and you get to buy this ticket" The best one was, "I'll give you Gov't Mule up your ass, you little prick" No, sorry, I am not familiar with that song. The crowd in the line and myself were all laughing very hard.

Hey TragicMagic;

First night of Berlin in 1990 somebody got hold of a scalpers briefcase full of tickets and heaved it off an upper walkway to a mass of Heads down below.
Now that was priceless!

I remember when scalpers first showed up on the scene, probably in 1985 or so. It was still isolated at that point, and got worse over the next 3-4 years but it didn't significantly impact the scene until the 90s. Unfortunately, counterfeit tickets were beginning to show up at the same time and I used that to my advantage.

When I would encounter a scalper (I remember being totally upset by a guy who was asking $35 for an $18.50 ticket) I would follow him around and tell prospective buyer, "Dude, don't buy that ticket it's a fake!" They would eventually get sick of me and sell it to me for what I was willing to pay, which was never more than 5 dollars over face.Only one guy got so mad that he physically threatened me, but he did it in front of like 500 Deadheads and they all came down on him pretty hard.
